It has been said that the best-known South Africans outside South Africa are Nelson Mandela and Jan Smuts. Smuts is regarded as the most prominent Afrikaner ever and one of the most influential world leaders of his time. There is still a great interest in the life of Smuts. This photobiography will satisfy a need in the market, as no similar books have been published recently.
Preface by Fransjohan Pretorius and background information by Richard Steyn.
Anton Joubert was tasked 10 years ago to gather all possible photographs of Jan Smuts for the library of the University of Pretoria and visited archives and museums countrywide to obtain images of Smuts. Currently, he is a volunteer at the Smuts House Museum in Irene and digitalises their photo collection and documents.
