Mount Orleans Press is thrilled to announce the release of “Objects of Greatest Desire: A Curator’s Memoir,” a captivating new book by James Lomax. This memoir offers an intimate glimpse into the life and career of a distinguished curator whose passion for art and history has shaped his remarkable journey.
“Objects of Greatest Desire” takes readers on a fascinating journey through the art world, from Lomax’s early days as a student to his influential roles at prestigious institutions, particularly Temple Newsam, Leeds. The memoir is filled with personal anecdotes, professional insights, and vivid descriptions of the works of art which have defined his career.
James Lomax trained as a museum curator under the late Christopher Gilbert at Temple Newsam before working at Manchester Art Galleries. For 35 years he has been involved in most aspects of museum curatorship: acquisitions, research, publications and cataloguing, teaching, exhibitions, conservation and collections management. Much of his work has touched on the history of collecting and the historic role of art dealers and the trade.
