Rob Porter
Rob Porter brings more than thirty years of practical experience to the reader that desires a greater understanding and knowledge of keeping that special group of lizards, geckos. Rob has lived in England, New Zealand, and Australia, caring for a variety of herps, from newts and toads, to a variety of Australian and exotic reptiles. His main interest has been geckos and skinks, and in recent times has investigated the captive requirements of legless lizards. Rob completed a Master of Science degree at Auckland University, and has since worked on reptile conservation projects in New Zealand, and worked with reptiles at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary and the Australian Reptile Park. Rob has given presentations to various herpetological societies, and published many articles on gecko husbandry. He is currently running Livefoods Unlimited, supplying live insects and frozen rodents to zoos, parks, pet shops, and private keepers around Australia. This book provides the reader with an understanding of keeping Australian geckos and legless lizards. It details the nutritional requirements needed, and the best methods for housing, heating and lighting. Rob also gives the reader tips on breeding and raising young. He discusses common ailments and disorders encountered in captivity, and devotes a large section to the individual species most likely to be found in captivity.
